The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is responsible for proper coordination amongst all types of skill development efforts across India. This ministry performs the main task of maintaining a balance between the demand and supply of skilled manpower. In keeping with its ‘Skill India’ mission, the Ministry aims to maintain high standards of skill development in the country at large. The 3 major agencies of the country – National Skill Development Agency (NSDA), National Skill Development Fund (NSDF) and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and 33 Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) collaborate with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in this work. . Apart from this, 187 Training Partners registered with NSDC are also making their significant contribution to make ‘Skilled India Mission’ successful across India.

Prime Minister Skill Development Scheme
This skill development scheme is a flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, which has been started by the National Skill Development Corporation in the year 2015 in all the states of the country. A budget of Rs 12,000 crore has been set for this scheme and 10 million Indian youth will be benefited by this scheme by the year 2020. Short term training courses are conducted under this scheme. The duration of training usually ranges from 150 – 300 hours. Under this scheme, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certificate is given to already experienced or skilled persons. Under this scheme, skilled persons are given employment opportunities by organizing skill and employment fairs after every 6 months. Certified professionals from here also participate in National Career Service fairs.
This scheme has been launched by the National Skill Development Corporation on July 10, 2015, primarily to provide employable talent and skill sets to the unemployed youth of Jammu and Kashmir. A budget of Rs 750 crore is fixed for this scheme and the target is to make 40 thousand youth skilled professionals under this scheme within 5 years.
Under this scheme 300 new polytechnics are being opened all over India and existing polytechnics are also being modified. The Government of India has earmarked a budget of Rs 12.3 crore to prepare each new polytechnic. In these polytechnics, the youngsters of India will be able to get professional training and certificate or diploma for the desired profession.
This scheme was first launched on 16 August 2013. The main objective of this scheme is to encourage skill development of Indian youth through training, monetary rewards and certificates. Under this scheme, each candidate is given an average monetary reward of Rs 10,000 on successful completion.
This scheme is also an important skill development scheme of MSDE, Government of India whose focus is to develop skill ecosystem through coordination at district level. Under this scheme, a strong IT system has been prepared in the name of ‘Skill India Portal’ to maintain the skill data of India. Under this scheme, there is a special focus on decentralized planning and quality improvement to focus on improving the skill-set of the Indian youth. Under this scheme, the concerned agencies at the center and state level have been included.
